What is Prostatitis?: Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland, which can be painful and cause frequent urination, difficulty urinating, or a burning feeling while urinating. It is one of the most common conditions seen by urologists. Symptoms:
Causes and Risks: Prostatitis can be caused by bacterial infection, although nonbacterial forms, such as Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS), exist. Risk factors include being young to middle-aged, having a history of infection, or injury to the pelvic area. Diagnosis and Treatment: MensKEY can identify the specific bacteria or fungi causing prostatitis, along with antimicrobial resistance. What is Epididymitis?: Epididymitis is an inflammation of the epididymis, a coiled tube at the back of the testicles that stores and carries sperm from the testicles up into the penis. While in this tube, sperm cells mature to the point where they can fertilize an egg. When this tube becomes swollen, it can cause pain and swelling in the testicles – lasting up to 6 weeks. Typically, only one testicle will swell. This condition is most frequently diagnosed in men aged 20 to 39. In fact, the National Library of Medicine estimates that over 600,000 (1 in 1,000) men in the U.S. are affected each year. Symptoms:
Causes and Risks: Epididymitis is often caused by bacterial infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Risk factors include having multiple sexual partners, a history of STIs, or recent urinary tract surgery. Diagnosis and Treatment: MensKEY provides comprehensive detection of the bacteria causing epididymitis, enabling accurate diagnosis and swift treatment. This test focuses on identifying pathogens affecting prostate and reproductive health, while MensKEY Complete provides a broader analysis of both urinary and reproductive health issues, including conditions like UTIs. This test only takes a semen sample while MensKEY accepts both urine and semen samples. Both utilize qPCR and NGS diagnostic technologies, but the Prostate Test Service is tailored for men with persistent prostate-related concerns.
Antibiotics can travel throughout your body and end up in your urine sample, potentially degrading the DNA of any microbes and skewing your test results. For optimal accuracy, it’s generally recommended to refrain from taking antibiotics for at least 48 hours before producing the sample. However, your provider will give the best guidance based on your medical history. Please consult them before changing your antibiotic use.
Sample should be shipped out to the lab within 24 hours of collection. If you are unable to ship out the sample within 24 hours, be sure to place in a refrigerator.
Samples that have not been submitted, cannot be refunded after 90 days.
New York orders for this product will only run qPCR for gene resistance (excluding Quinolone resistance) and bacterial load; followed by NGS, which compares the DNA to a library of over 57,000 microbial species.
Samples originating from New York patients, or providers, will NOT receive antibiotic recommendations.

For International Orders ONLY: The shipping cost will only cover the cost of shipping the test kit to you.
We are unable to provide return shipping to international customers and the customer is responsible for shipping the test kit back to our Laboratory Facility in Lubbock, Texas.
