Uncover the Elusive Pathogen Causing Your Respiratory Distress
Respiratory tract infections, such as those affecting the lower respiratory tract, can be persistent, debilitating, and challenging to diagnose accurately. Each year millions of people get lower respiratory tract infections, with ~490 million people contracting them globally in 2019.
Traditional testing methods often fail to identify the bacteria or fungi responsible, leading to prolonged sickness and ineffective treatments which result in higher personal and healthcare costs.
MicroGenDX’s Respiratory Tract Infection (RTI) Test Service presents a hi-tech, cutting-edge solution, leveraging advanced molecular diagnostics to deliver insights that reveal what’s likely causing your infection and what you can do about it.
Our team of microbiologists and clinical experts ensures that every test meets the highest standards of accuracy and reliability – backed by over 70 published studies!
MicroGenDX’s unique use of qPCR and NGS technologies sets it apart by delivering unmatched precision, accuracy, and reliability in molecular testing. All while offering some of the most competitive pricing for NGS testing, establishing itself as the value leader in the space. MicroGenDX’s dedication to both quality and price makes NGS testing accessible to all.
From the convenience of at-home testing kits to comprehensive customer support, each aspect of the MicroGenDX experience is designed to make testing stress-free.
MicroGenDX prices its products affordably to reflect their value and ensure high-quality testing is accessible to everyone. We believe comprehensive, reliable diagnostics should be within reach for all who seek better health.
Don’t let a respiratory infection compromise your health and personal enjoyment. With the RTI Test Service, you can gain the microbial clarity and confidence needed to tackle even the most challenging infections. Order your test kit today and take the first step toward better treatment, better breathing, and better health.
The RTI Test Service screens for respiratory tract infections, where the symptoms can vary but typically involve:
If you are experiencing severe symptoms such as high fever or prolonged chest pain, seek medical help immediately. These could be signs of a serious infection such as pneumonia or bronchitis that requires professional medical intervention.
A standard method in medical testing is called culture testing, where a sample is placed on a petri dish to see what microbes develop over time. Culture methods often fail to grow all the microbes present in a sample, with researchers finding that the test can only grow 2% of microbes. This can lead to incomplete or incorrect diagnoses and treatment planning. The RTI Test integrates qPCR with NGS to directly detect a microbe’s DNA, identifying the pathogens from a much larger range of microbes (and antimicrobial resistance genes) with greater precision and in less time.
The RTI Test Service uses both qPCR and Next-Gen DNA Sequencing (NGS) to detect a broader range of over 57,000 bacteria and fungi, that may be the cause of your chronic cough or respiratory infection. In contrast, the Respiratory Viral Test Service uses qPCR to detect viral pathogens that cause respiratory illnesses, like RSV, Influenza A/B, and the human rhinovirus. If you are unsure whether the pathogen behind your symptoms are viral, bacterial, or fungal, the RTI Test Service is your best option for a more comprehensive analysis.
The RTI Test is designed to identify a wide range of lower respiratory tract infections, including pathogens commonly behind bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and other chronic lung conditions. With MicroGenDX’s curated reference database, NGS can detect over 57,000 bacteria and fungi.
Yes, the RTI Test can be valuable for individuals at risk of respiratory infections, even if they are asymptomatic. Proactive testing can inhibit a developing infection and improve treatment.
Viral, bacterial, and fungal respiratory infections share a similar group of symptoms, with the largest difference being in how each type is treated. Viral infections have more flu-like symptoms like sneezing, body aches, or a runny nose, typically resolving on their own. On the other hand, Bacterial or fungal infections may present more severe, prolonged symptoms like a high fever (often over 100°F), chronic cough, chest pain, or difficulty breathing. While viral infections do not respond to antibiotics, bacterial and fungal infections often require treatment with antibiotics or antifungal medications. Viral infections can be made easier with bed rest, decongestants, fluids, and pain relievers, among other over-the-counter options.
Sample should be shipped out to the lab within 24 hours of collection. If you are unable to ship out the sample within 24 hours, be sure to place in a refrigerator.
Samples that have not been submitted, cannot be refunded after 90 days.
New York orders for this product will only run qPCR for gene resistance (excluding Quinolone resistance) and bacterial load; followed by NGS, which compares the DNA to a library of over 57,000 microbial species.
Samples originating from New York patients, or providers, will NOT receive antibiotic recommendations.
We DO NOT offer refunds on shipping fees or lab services.
MicroGenDX cannot ship to Russia, China (except Hong Kong), Ukraine, Hungary, India, or any country in Africa.
